New feature suggestion: Deauth and Reauthorization Page
New California law - Storefronts will have to tell customers they’re getting a license that can be revoked as well as provide a list of all the restrictions that come along with it.
There is much talk about re-installing Delphi gripes. I’ve noticed several vendors have a self-service page to authorize and de-authorize their products… why doesn’t Embarcadero have a self-service page?
There is a self-service portal which stores license and download links…
“You can’t install your legally paid for perpetual license of Delphi anymore, unless pay a yearly fee of several hundred Euros.”
I can uninstall other IDEs, while I cannot re-install Delphi without hassle. So, I’ve asked AI to make a self-service page concept.
At a glance, I can see all the IDERA things I’ve brought, when I’ve first brought, maintenance status, and how many days left, and self-service deauthorization.
The negative number, like -130 days, allows me to see if I still quality for a discount on renewals.
Other IDEs, such as Unity, JetBrains to name a few, allow self-service deauthorization as many times, so long as the license is respected, ie, one license for up-to 2 computers. For Embarcadero, you need to manually email or fill-up a form.
Why not integrate deauthorization and reauthorization to the self-service portal? This will allow a user to deauthorize their Delphi license, for comical gripes - Delphi personality not found, Android SDK not installed correctly.
and… the most common reason - changed Windows machine name.
An issue -
If it says Buy Now, I should be able to re-authorize and de-authorize my license and not have to pay annual renewals. According to California laws, it should say “license”, not “Buy Now”. What do you think?
“When the law comes into effect next year, it will ban digital storefronts from using terms like “buy” or “purchase,” unless they inform customers that they’re not getting unrestricted access to whatever they’re buying. Storefronts will have to tell customers they’re getting a license that can be revoked as well as provide a list of all the restrictions that come along with it (emphasis added). Companies that break the rule could be fined for false advertising.” [2]

I can still use JetBrains IDE, Unity and many others, from yesteryears. Delphi requires an annual payment should I need to re-install Delphi.
Do you think Embarcadero should be sued for false advertising? They sue customers - engaging in years-long court battle - NCR v Embarcadero…, send hundreds of legal letters, license terminations, so much that there are public records of customer license-compliance representatives racking up thousands of hours.
And what exactly are the list of restrictions on the Delphi license? Is it FAFO? What if, an employee or contractor posts installation media on file-sharing websites, serials on-line and then abscond?
